Free Insurance Marketing Ideas

Notes from Episode 84

Becoming an insurance agent offering Medicare insurance is one of the most cost-effective ways to become self-employed.

However, if you have a limited budget coming in, you will need to offset that lack of funding with hustle.

Here are some free/low-cost marketing ideas in no particular order:

Google Business Profile

When people are looking for a local agent, Google will pull from the local businesses. If you are not listed, then your competition may show up instead. Insurance carriers, large call centers, agencies, etc. pay thousands of dollars a month to show up for more generic searches, but being local is how you can help show up on first-page results.

Simply click the link, follow the instructions, and get your agency listed.

Local Seminars

Hosting a seminar is a great way to get your name out there as a local expert. You can discuss a variety of topics, such as the basics of Medicare, Medicare updates, Medicare Q&A, etc. The challenge is not what to talk about, but rather to have people to talk to. One way to work around this go to where the seniors are, rather than try and get them to come to you.

NOTE: Be mindful of CMS rules and guidelines when it comes to speaking about Medicare C and D plans. Check with your upline or carrier for further information.

Professional Referrals

Your clients use other professionals, which means other seniors who are not your clients use them as well. Financial planners, estate planning attorneys, CPAs, pharmacies, medical providers, etc. can all be great referral sources. Just remember that this is a two-way street, as one of the best ways to get referrals is to give them.

Video

Video has been the top-performing media type online for years. Just look at the success of YouTube, the #2 most visited site online, as well as the rise of TikTok. Video has also become easier since all modern phones provide more than adequate video quality and microphones are very affordable. However, it can be daunting to start, watch yourself, and hear your voice.

How effective can video be? Take a look. Head on over to YouTube and take a look around. Search for Medicare Supplement, Medicare Advantage, and other senior topics and see what others are doing and their views count.

Social Media

Social media can feel like a full-time job on top of a full-time job. Social media is a daily visit for many people. Being on social media can put you in front of numerous prospects daily. The real challenge of social media is consistency. Can you post on social media at least three times a week throughout the year? It has been stated by experts that if you cannot be consistent, then you may be better off just not doing it at all. If you have not posted in a few months, people visiting your page may think that you are no longer in business, or not taking business as seriously as others who are posting more often.

First things first, get your professional page up, and current, and then keep it active.

Blog

If video and social media feel like the wrong path, start a blog. Blogging can be easier than you realize as you don’t have to write a novel for each one. Google recommends them being at least 300-500 words. To give you some context, this blog is just over 500 words at this point. You can post once a week and still have some decent results. Then you can work on keywords and search engine optimization down the road to have even more success with your blog.

Will any of these get you leads right away?

Maybe, but more than likely not. These ideas are free for a reason as they can be effective for brand awareness, but not necessarily lead generation right away. After some time and effort, the consistency of these ideas can start producing leads.

Listen to episode 85 for some lead-producing strategies.
